Dan MacPherson della MacPherson Guitars ci ha presentato in esclusiva la nuova chitarra che ha costruito per Dennis Stratton.

Ecco le parole di Dan "La chitarra è una costruzione con manico in pezzo unico, fatto di 5 pezzi di acero fiammato e mogano. Ali in mogano brasiliano, un top bombato in acero fiammato, con un binding in acero fiammato naturale. Le ali sono in mogano brasiliano rivestito in acero fiammato. La tastiera è anch'essa in ebano con una parte in acero alla base dove si unisce al corpo della chitarra per poter avere la stessa venatura del legno. I segnatasti sono dei diamanti in madreperla e dal primo al dodicesimo hanno una "D" gotica incisa su scelta di Dennis. L'hardware scelto si compone del classico tremolo Floyd Rose e i pickup EMG 81 al ponte e EMG 85 al manico - una combinazione killer! La finitura è simile ad una sbiadita Gibson 59 LP come richiesto da Dennis. Poichè si tratta di un modello custom, sulla paletta è presente la firma di Dennis Stratton. Si tratta di una chitarra su misura, fatta a mano su specifiche e requisiti di Dennis, ma sarà anche disponibile al pubblico da MacPherson Guitars. Le specifiche saranno identiche a quelle della chitarra di Dennis con l'eccezione della scelta dei colori.

Abbiamo anche chiesto a Dan come avesse conosciuto il nostro amatissimo Dennis Stratton, chitarrista indimenticato del primo e monolitico album degli Iron Maiden: "Conosco personalmente Dennis da molti anni e ho effettuato un po' di interventi e riparazioni su alcune delle sue altre chitarre. Lo conosco non solo per essere stato uno dei primi chitarristi degli Iron Maiden e dei Praying Mantis ma anche per gli "early days" con i Remus Down Boulevard".

Ed ecco come è nata l'idea di una custom guitar: "Ho colto l'occasione di parlare con Dennis per realizzare questa chitarra un po' di tempo fa, dopo l'ennesima conversazione che ho avuto con Dave Edwards. Ho conosciuto Dave molti ma molti anni fa e lui è davvero il catalizzatore per l'intero progetto.  E' stato Dave che personalmente mi ha fatto conoscere Dennis al Bridge House 2 circa 6 anni fa e quindi senza l'aiuto di Dave, tutto questo non sarebbe successo".

Tecnicamente, Dan ha voluto sottolineare come la cura dei dettagli sia un elemento chiave in questo tipo di prodotti: "Il processo di realizzazione di questa chitarra è lo stesso utilizzato per ogni altro strumento personalizzato: ottenere quante più informazioni possibili dal cliente su ciò che vuole e su ciò che si aspetta dalla chitarra. La speranza è poi che facendo correttamente il mio lavoro i miei clienti ottengano esattamente quello che hanno chiesto!".

The Guitar:
A through neck construction made up of a five piece core of flame maple and ebony. Brazilian Mahogany wings, carved flame maple top with a natural flame maple faux binding. The fretboard is also ebony with a flame maple binding with a section of the fretboard showing at the base of the binding to match the ebony veneer which makes up part of the core and top. The fretboard marker are MOP offset diamonds with the 1st to 12th having a gothic style engraved "D" to chosen by  Dennis for the guitar.  The hardware chosen is the classic Floyd Rose trem and locking nut with EMG 81 in the bridge and an EMG 85 in the neck - a killer combination.
The finish is akin to the shades of a faded 59 LP as requested by Dennis.
As this is a signature model it Bares the Dennis Stratton signature on the headstock - This is a custom guitar, hand made to the specifications and requirements of Dennis but it will also available as a custom order instrument from MacPherson Guitars. The specifications will be as the Guitar Dennis plays with the exception of colour options.
 
Dennis:
I've known Dennis personally for a number of years now and have carried some previous repair work on some of his other guitars.
Obviously I've known of Dennis for a long time as one of the original Iron Maiden guitarist and Praying Mantis but also from the earlier Remus Down Boulevard days.  I took the chance to speak to Dennis about making this guitar some time ago after another conversation I had with Dave Edwards. I've known Dave for many, many years and he is really the catalyst for the whole project.  It was originally Dave who personally introduced me to Dennis at the Bridge House 2  venue about 6 years ago -  so without Dave's input, non of this would have happened.
The process of getting the guitar made was really no different to making any other custom instrument, it's all about getting as much information from the player about what want and expect out of the guitar, hopefully if I've done my job correctly they get exactly what they've asked for!
